CNN) - American Airlines and British Airways have been rated among the worst airlines for long-haul flights, according to a survey of travelers by a consumer...

'Worst' airlines revealed in survey https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/w...ntl/index.html

Now it is AA Employees & creditors turn to rate AAG.

More trouble could be on the way if there is an economic downturn. American has a higher debt load than its competitors — close to $35 billion, according to FactSet, about the same of Delta and United’s debt combined.

    Not a problem.
Bankruptcy will take care of the debt.
The quality will just get worse.

One of my past points; In order to solve their service problems, they’ll have to reinvent their relationship with front-line labor and that will cost a lot of money. Problem is, they don’t have the money considering the last several years of sub-standard profits and massive debt. They are in a Catch-22 situation and the next bankruptcy will likely require some type of fragmentation of AA only exacerbating it’s now near hopeless morale problem.

If the upper management is smart, they will try to line their pockets as much as possible going forward while keeping a close eye on exit options. Junior pilots likely won’t be that smart in the case of the latter concern.

Bankruptcy will also take care of labor contracts negotiations, for ALL union groups.

Lorenzo shaped the industry as very few people have done. He was the first to use bankruptcy to restructure an airline.

If only gutting labor could solve all their problems. It might help in the short-term, but unfortunately gutting labor will only exacerbate them in the long run. IMO, the product is toast and has no prayer of ever competing with Delta (and soon Kirby's United), let alone the high quality European/Asian carriers. That might be the only potential direction for AA essentially becoming the U.S version of Norweigan with rock bottom labor costs and high turnover. The other option is partial fragmentation whereby some of the parts are worth more sold then retained. Again also IMO, it's high-risk for those junior and the worst part is there will likely be little warning of the shift to the new paradigm.

    Merry Christmas and Caveat Emptor.
