Best base choices for a new Delta Flight Attendant? New York or....?

    Hi all,

I will be starting as a Delta flight attendant in the fall and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the best bases to aim for in the beginning? I think initially we will only be given few choices (maybe DTW, BOS, MSP and JFK) but have been told we can always transfer later. I am wondering how difficult it is to be based in New York as a flight attendant (or other crew) in general? My biggest concerns are of course the rent in Manhattan (yikes) and also transportation / commute time and cost to JFK and the other airports. I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences if you have ever been based in New York and what that was like? Or if there are better base choices for a new flight attendant you would suggest? I will be moving with my husband and his work is internet based and flexible from anywhere. Thank you!

Why not take this to delta forum, I am sure they have a better perspective.

I can tell you Boston is an amazing place to live with easy access to some amazing areas. I lived there for years and only need a car twice.

JFK base will have a bunch of international flying for you. I know the JFK-Dublin (or Shannon) always had very junior flight attendants.

DTW and MSP I have no input for

Since you will move there, look at cost of living. DTW and MSP are probably cheaper than JFK and BOS.

Another factor to consider is seniority. Since you'll live there, it's not as bad as commuting, but being able to hold a good line is important to quality of life. Look at the relative size of the flight attendant groups. Usually, the larger the group, the faster you'll move up in seniority.
