American Airlines discriminates against female flight attendants, union alleges.

“We deserve the same respect and professionalism as our other crewmembers...”

Specifically, the union takes umbrage with an attendance policy it deems is unfair, and pointed out that American Airlines pilots are not held to the same standards.

Union President Lori Bassani says in an interview that American is discriminating against women because the airline's mostly male pilot workforce does not have a similar attendance policy.

"They would never think of treating (the pilots) in this manner," she said.

Flight attendants are given points for things such as calling in sick during the holidays or after being asked to replace another absent flight attendant. Bassani says 10 points gets a flight attendant fired, and "a few" have been terminated.

Pilots too. The draconian sick policy at Eagle in the past was something out of Pyongyang. Now, Envoy pilots toe a very narrow line or lose the carrot that dangles in front of them, namely the flow to AA. Delta and their associated regionals inspire their employees, while AAG demoralizes them.

Don’t know about that at envoy for pilots. Had 4 sick calls in a year and never got called in. On #4 went in to clear myself and they didn’t care. Not even paper work. Maybe the pilot shortage?

Interesting, I only had 4 and was fired. Offered copies of medical records and they declined to even look. Was rehired about 4 weeks later after administrative law judge called it the most egregious termination he’d seen in 22 years, but nevertheless they actually did it on just four occurrences.

you at Envoy, or one of the other wholly owned? Pilot Or FA ?

I too have had 4 in 12 fairly recently. Never heard a peep. I talked to my CP about this subject a year or two ago. He said nobody is given grief for strictly having 3 or 4 sick calls in 12 months. The ones who do get grief for it also have other issues going on.

Yeah, like being a union official leading the vote no campaign, successfully defending guys they tried to fire, and fighting to keep it a good job for all. I’d love to get a bunch of people who’ve been told that to testify to it that the CP’s said it’s not the absences, it’s other issues. That termination was short lived but they did do it to bust my balls nonetheless.

Dont worry, you're not missing anything but a shi+ show at aa and envoy. Today we cancelled a lot of flights for wind gusts that were not sustaining 50 or more knots or in any frequency to maintain 50 or more knots. You tell me why. A lot of cats flying airplanes these days.
