"The prospect of flying as an American Airlines Inc. flight attendant prompted more than 20,000 hopefuls to apply for 1,500 jobs the Fort Worth-based carrier is looking to fill.

The response has been so strong since American opened up the application process in early November that the carrier has largely quit accepting new applications..." Full text: American Airlines attracts more than 20,000 applicants for flight attendant jobs

The average age is 51. I welcome seeing some pre-menopausal women working the cabins. I know lots of customers who will too.

New blood. Fresh attitude. Bring it.

[Laura Glading 17 Nov 12] "...It was reported that 20,000 people applied for AA's FA positions during the last week. This is a testament to the flight attendant profession and the unions who promote and protect our careers..."

Proof please. These people have no choice but to join the union.

Perhaps Ms. Glading can tell us why children will never know what a Twinkie, Ding Dong, or Hostess fruit pie is. Unions are the parasites that kill their hosts.

Ms. Glading continues, "I hope that this message can provide some reassurance and allow you to focus on family and loved ones as we enter the holiday season..."

You just sold us down the river with threshold flying (420 minimum hours to remain employed). Some of us were there to raise our little ones and care for aging parents.

You value equality. We value freedom.

"...I ask that you take some time to relax and enjoy your friends and family."

"We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us." ~ Borg Drone aka American Airlines Flight Attendant

In a down economy, such a job is sure to attract many applicants. Of the 1500 who are hired, a more important question is "How many will still be here after probation?"
