American Airlines is a subsidiary of American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) based in Fort Worth, Texas.

I believe this revelation was originally published in the journal "NO $HIT!?!"

    lets see,
    stock price falling,
    25 billion debt due 2021,
7.5 billion underfunded pension (even after bankruptcy, interesting),
billions spent on stock buy back,
    profits shrinking,
well one of two things will happen, 1. bankruptcy in time for contract talks with apa, my guess fall 2019,
    2. board of directors replacing parker.
personally number 2 will never happen but number 1 has great probability especially since parker has taken airlines into 3 bankruptcies already, he has no fear of it.
    Sir, can I have another.

This is gonna play out in an awful ugly manner. My bet is DP make a grab for the pension funds among other things.
If you think labor relations are bad now...

Parker (or more accurately AAG), can’t “make a grab” for the pilots A-fund, but can under certain circumstances seek to terminate it from its presently frozen status. To do so however would require demonstration that not doing so would threaten AA as a going concern and would classify it as “distressed”. AAG will have to start making significant contributions to it beginning in 2019 and over the next 3-4 years, that would be a considerable amount of money in the Billions. Barring something unforeseen globally or domestically dramatically impacting the U.S. Airline industry (which would likely cripple AA), AAG can kick the can for awhile. But the trend is going in the wrong direction for revenue and profits and so coupled with the fact AA pilots will have their hands out on the first of the year, looking for dramatic increase in compensation, AAG’s relations with its pilots is likely to go from worse then they have ever been to whatever is worse then that.

It won’t be a good time to be an AA pilot IMO as they will also have staffing problems likely to produce QWL in the ballpark of what Envoy provides now. AAG is certain to seek Scope relief for whatever scraps they do offer and that’s not good for junior AA pilots especially. I expect them to play the pension against Scope, so it will be interesting if senior, older AA pilots rationalize eating their young again to save what might not be threatened unless a catalyst forces it. The majority of AA pilots are very risk intolerant and that could be easily exploited again. Considering all the economic mines laid out over the next 5 years for AA and especially those junior there, it IMO would behoove one in that situation to have a significant savings available and not make any major purchases that add big debt until the future is more predictable there.

    Just my .02......

Pension vs. Scope is what I was eluding to in a round about way.
People may scoff at that idea, but it isnt out of the realm of possibilities.

What does a social media memo have to do with AA subsidiaries and stock prices?
