Happy; yes. The commuting never really bothered me much. I wasn't thrilled with 50-60 hours a month commuting to ORD unpaid, but it went with the job. Commuting to NY was easy and only took about 15 extra hours a month. I fought for the guys who didn't have easy commutes. At the time on the MEC only Neal and myself were reserve pilots. Funny how we're the two they fired.

Now I drive to Boston from home and am at the gate in about 35 minutes. That is pretty hard to beat and makes it a whole new job.

I've always been happy, even at Envoy. After all, it's a pretty cool job we have no matter where you're doing it.

The arbitration hearing went very well. Their case went south. That said, you NEVER know what an arbitrator may do. He may decide he doesn't like short fat guys, who knows.

Interesting post. Sounds like even some lateral moves from Envoy may not be so bad. In fact, if one were to take the pure economic factors like AA flow component, higher max pay due to larger aircraft and travel network of AA out of the equation when comparing your description of PenAir and many other present Envoy pilots of the present Envoy, it sounds like PenAir is the superior employer to Envoy based on pilot value, QWL and treatment. It also sounds like your hearing produced some hope of vindication if Envoy's case "went South". Hopefully, the arbitrator will agree it was unwarranted. Also hopefully Neal will also be vindicated and made completely whole for his situation as well.

The potentially very good news is that it sounds like if successful, you'll be able to go to AA with little or no further exposure to Envoy which, let's face it, is not only arguably the predominant reason most pilots come to Envoy in the first place, but once they are there, almost immediately begin planning for their ultimate exit, be it flow to AA or elsewhere. IMO, this reality is Envoy's biggest albatross and inexplicably it's a bird they simply are unable or unwilling to let fly away.

Confirmed as fake news. Not to say that it may not happen at some point but as of now there is no public plans to close Envoy ORD MX nor is there any plan (again, as of now) for Skywest to take over ORD MX.

My source were MX personnel, snippercr did not state where and who he confirmed the news from. Although the loss of envoy MX positions in ord is not good for all, but the downsizing of ord every month with the growth to skw is definitely not a positive and a fact.

Fair enough, but you took that assumption of all ORD MTX closing, (which is NOT true from my experience, asking the odd mechanic clearing a writeup, who looked at me like I was from Mars...), to conclude another assumption of ORD closing which was NOT the case in at least the short term, and very probably not even EVER,,, but whatever,,, anything is possible in this industry.

My point is that you made a stretch there. That was REALLY wrong to do. That is pure rumor and hype, and we deserve better than that.

You have to back that accusation up with credible verifiable evidence or shut up.

Let's face it, it's fair to ask if this source has told some tall tales in the past. But OK, let's look again at some math; 450 captains and 650 new-hires is 1100 training events. 1100 events like that should each require 25 hours of IOE which is about 27,500 hours of IOE needed this year. This would require about 29 IOE check airman flying solely IOE for 80 hours each and every month throughout the year to move pilots through the training pipeline to completion. How far ahead or behind are they so far ? If they are behind in that metric, it only means more IOE above these figures to catch-up by years end. Considering some of these non-IOE simulator aspects like these new outsourced training instructors won't be on-board and up to speed for awhile, perhaps late Fall, the claims in this sugar plum of an announcement look dubious, at least to me. To add more weight to this theoretical camel with the already broken back, many check airman would theoretically be cycling through to AA as supposedly over 25/month will be flowing and IOE check airman are captains.

Who knows, perhaps someone will indeed pull a rabbit out of a hat (or a simulator) and meet these meteoric claims, but I'm not convinced. IMO, the math remains fuzzy and the claims remain bombastic. Perhaps my math is off, but I can't connect the dots on this.
The whole Training House and IOE changes are interesting. In the last two weeks I've had both a line check with the Line Check captain flying as FO and newbie Line check captain in the jump seat, but a senior FO who was both upgrading and going to the schoolhouse as a Sim instructor.

The company is definitely scrambling to keep up with the training cycles. The French thing could be fun for some and a freakin' nightmare for others. Still, it's not in the company's best interests to send pilots out so far only to bust them, retrain them and give them another check ride.

Regardless of the eventual disposition of any given hub, Envoy pilots need to understand that Envoy is no longer the fair-haired boy of AMR (nor "American Eagle Airlines"), but simply another moveable chess piece for AAG. Right now it has strategic value, but that is not the same as returning to the past. Many factors, both controllable and uncontrollable can completely alter Envoy's present situation making Envoy as different in a few years as it is different now from a few years ago and that is a major reason why future "projections" of any type regarding any THING are essentially meaningless.
Those of us flying through MIA know how well the whole "contract MTX" thing works. If Envoy closes Chicago, we'll be backsliding as far as newhires go. Right now it appears Envoy is hitting its recruiting numbers due to a combination of bonus pay and domiciles. Numbers shot up when LGA was announced. Take away ORD and we'll see another cycle of displacements, unhappy commuters and pilots incentivized to work someplace else.

The announcement that MIA wouldn't reopen means schedules with DH's will continue. That's not very efficient in middle of a pilot shortage.
