LEC 083 Newsblast: DFW Crew Facilities

    DFW CREW FACILITIES

    Fellow DFW Pilots,

We recently received reports that the DFW ready reserve room was failing to meet the clean and comfortable accommodations requirement of our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Since early March, several extremely dirty, stained, and dilapidated reddish chairs keep finding their way into the DFW crew room and ready reserve room.

Over the past several months, your LEC 083 Leadership has repeatedly addressed the condition of these chairs with Envoy Management. In fact, Management concurred with our position that these chairs are unsuitable and inappropriate for our crewmembers’ use. Unfortunately, the several assurances made by Envoy Management to resolve the problem with these unsuitable chairs have not materialized.

Instead, this past weekend Envoy Management decided to move the three dirty and stained reddish chairs exclusively into the pilot crew room in an attempt to avoid a pending grievance on the condition of the DFW ready reserve room. Management’s short-sighted solution of moving these dirty and stained reddish chairs into the crew room is not only punitive but it is still a violation our CBA.

We understand that the DFW Chief Pilot’s Office ordered new recliners in March. Since these new chairs may not arrive for several more weeks, we have asked Envoy Management to find a more suitable, temporary solution until the new chairs arrive. However, Management has ignored our reasonable request. Therefore, your LEC 083 Leadership Team in coordination with the MEC Contract Compliance Committee Chairman, Michael Froscher, have filed a grievance over the condition of the DFW Crew Facilities. A copy of the grievance is attached to this Newsblast for your review.

As always, if you encounter a situation that is not in compliance with the contract, please contact your LEC 083 Leadership Team immediately. While we can't oversee each of the thousands of operations conducted daily, with your help and continued vigilance we can address and ultimately resolve issues that are contrary to our CBA.

A contract undefended is a contract that is worthless.

    In Unity,

    Captain Neal Spanier
    ENY LEC-083 Chairman
    Neal.Spanier@alpa.org

    First Officer Kyle Flynn
    ENY LEC-083 Vice-Chairman
    Kyle.Flynn@alpa.org

    Captain Pat Couture
    ENY LEC-083 Secretary-Treasurer
    Pat.Couture@alpa.org

Can you add ORD to this? The ready room is next to the rampers room and it's noisy from 6am to 10pm. It violates the "quiet" aspect of the Ready Reserve section of the contract.

Please file a contract compliance form on the alpa.org website and we will take care of it.

    Thank you!

Even if I'm not a rsv pilot? I filed them when I was a new hire years ago and heard nothing back.

Yes. You can do that even if you are not a RSV pilot.

Alex Sidie. What effect does your NS number have on you? I'm not sure why pilots feel it needs to be updated. Use the lists from the ALPA site. It's updated monthly.

It's just a waste of time. I've won many grievances on other issues with no money awarded to me or paid days off. Just an apology since I was never financially harmed.

But a grievance for something like this will compel the Company to fix the problem. Otherwise, it will be business as usual. A contract compliance form on issues that are contrary to the contract help the Association fix the problem.

Kudos for the job you do Neal. It is very much appreciated. However, ALPA is essentially one man fighting the Soviet Politburo. I've filed NCC's , documented and done everything the union has recommended in the past. It doesn't help. ALPA has lots of ammo but can't seem to get the rifles loaded and pointed in the right direction. In my opinion only, it's not going to compel the company to do s**t. They violate the contract regularly and nothing ever happens. Look at the BS "award" for the LTFO grievance. Over 3 years later and a lousy pending resolution that will likely not have much benefit to those harmed. AAG/Envoy is a POS company and the best thing anyone can do is try to bail from this outfit as soon as they can.

This is a good summation. I've put it numerous grievance forms over the years. When a clear contract violation is brought before the committee, ALPA always settles for pennies on the dollar. Rinse, and repeat. Ad nauseum. The company will never change their ways because they've figured it costs less to ignore the contract at will, than it does to follow it. Disgruntled employees be damned!
