    To play devil's advocate here:
There is a significant chance that if we got the RLA repealed whatever law replaces it will be worse.
It's fair to assume that the airlines have way more political sway than ALPA does. They could, very likely, write a law even more in their favor and bribe (I mean 'lobby') Congress to pass it.

I don't know that this will happen, but I can imagine scared ALPA lawyers making this argument.

afraid that if opening the RLA in Congressional Committee for revision that Managements will take the opportunity to begin making changes they want also, and that we'll end up with an RLA that is even worse than what we have now.
that is the short version of their lengthy explanations

When you put it like that they're likely right. It doesn't matter who is in office, they're bought and paid for so the RLA would emerge worse than it started. A lose-lose situation. There's no way they'd ever allow employees to get the upper hand in negotiations or by allowing easy access to strikes.

On the other hand, if the airlines are so sure they can change it in their favor, they should push for an RLA update. Either way, it's an outdated act that needs modernization to apply to airlines today.

Why change it if you're an airline? They can already accomplish most anything they want outside of section 6 or other negotiations, and if a strike is instituted the employees can always be ordered back to work. Failing that the company can always declare bankruptcy to get what they want, even with billions of dollars in the bank.

Think Dallas is bad now. Just wait for Friday, predicting freezing temps and snow/ice.

62 cancelled today with almost all in ORD, and the 2-5" of snow isn't even here yet. GIO 8 CXL shows Cxl reason XRA is almost half of those, and "Region" another 25. In the RF, XRA is listed as "Mainline Request". Is this normal? What does it really mean? Finally, anybody know what "Region" is?

It was explained to me that Envoy can no longer CXL whole blocks of flights, but must ask permission from on high.

Perhaps that is where the "region" comes from.

Between Deicing and fueling (or lack thereof) this place has become embarrassing.

Staffing used to be at least several reserves still available by the end of the day

Now nobody is available the day prior with a dozen trips open still.

Thank the execs for those dual gps's and fms's In our shiney new jets though.

now i can use the new e175 type to get that e190 job in sunny china for twice the money, still get treated like **** but they will pay twice the money. staffing problems here are just starting, eventually douggie and scotty wont be able to move flying around to others because they wont have anyone also to crew any aircraft.

What I've learned, just because GoJet, TSA, PSA, Mesa, Republic... Whoever's management takes the flying, doesn't mean they can staff it. It's better to have the flying and lose it than not get it at all. We're all in the same boat, and it's going to start sinking fast.
XJT started transferring the XLRs to TSA last week... TSA is now forced to buy parts from XJT who holds the production rights to the XLRs. One example is the center fuel pump, if one goes out only XJT can supply a new one. So this shell game is just that, a game. Played out by management to see who has traditionally acted without foresight... I want to stay here just to laugh when it falls apart.

Which AA FO Jim Winkley makes it sound like they splurged for all of the bells and whistles...

Dual honeywell FMS are standard on the Ejets because that's how the radios are tuned. If you just had one, you could never defer it. Autothrottles are also standard. ADS-B will be mandatory in 2020 in all transponder required airspace so they would be stupid not to elect for this.

Now if they said they will be equipped with crew closets for luggage, acars printer, HUDs, auto-brakes (like republics), or bluetooth headsets, I would be impressed. But this is AAG. Just look at how they have equipped CPZ's AAG owned 175's. They are bare-boned compared to their current delta airframes.

From what I've heard the HUD is just one of the few options that they didn't opt for because it is the not really necessary for CATIII ops. These r well beyond base models from what I've heard

I tend to agree here. Until the United States returns to a place where the majority of Americans support employee rights, including the right to collective bargaining, opening the RLA, like our last contract, will only see more concessions.
