I recall the company using junior manning as a staffing tool on a regular basis since the days of Ralph Richardi. They could easily band-aid the operation with 100-150 captain deficiency with JM/RA. Your red flag will be a vacation problem for June-Aug. sounds like the summer VAC flag is already pink.

I've been saying that for 15 years. The company actually responded to all the complaints about that nomenclature. They say they had nothing to do with it and the term actually comes from the manufacturers. Which is complete B.S. you know damn well it was a ploy of Psychology to keep the younger pilots in a frame of mind that we are just "Regional" pilots.
    XNA-SBA | DFW- BOI.. hell Xjet did IAH-BOI | DFW-NAS ... yeah right that's regional.

Today I came to work and CA was Open. They finally assigned someone 10 minutes before departure. They tried to JM him into the overnight, but he has already been JM'ed twice this month. They assign another guy but he points out he has also been JM'ed twice this month. They finally JM some poor sucker on their 3rd attempt. So are we understaffed on captains? My evidence points to a resounding YES!

Don't worry they'll park airplanes and it'll all be better.

So this thread is based solely on logic? Does this mean your inside source has been exposed and is most likely being water-boarded this very minute at the Euless Yacht Club?

Not exactly apples and oranges. Closing LAX means aircraft are not utilized fully either. Returning them will change your math. And as pointed out above SJU closure will change things too after the training bubble.

Is there any point in grieving the staffing level?

Yes, you establish a pattern of abuse and repetitive violations. At the very least you fight to get the top 150 FO's pay protected or back pay... But that would require a union.

We should form a union then. Sounds like it might be a good deal for the AE pilots to have a union.

There is a mentality that seems to think if it's in writing they won't violate it. Most of us know better, that the company violates whatever it chooses to violate. Look at the 401k issue. Does the language get any more specific that that? 401k $uper $aver is how it was written... yet, well... here we are.

much like the PBS salesmen think the pairing language protects us and will allow us to control the pairings.... yeah, right, good luck with that.
